Volunteers who care for refugees held in the Purnara camp in Kokkinotrimithia have written a complaint to Cypriot Interior Minister Nikos Nouris that the humanitarian aid collected is not reaching its recipients, Philenews reports.
Refugees are actively complaining about the unacceptable conditions in the overcrowded camp – and volunteers confirm their words. For example, most illegals only have one set of clothes and people simply do not have a chance to even wash their clothes because they do not have a change of underwear. Women report a lack of necessary hygiene products.
Volunteers point out that people and organizations who care about them regularly collect basic necessities – bedding, underwear, clothes, hygiene products, etc. – for the refugees. However, according to them, all this simply does not reach the addressees, disappearing somewhere on the way to Purnara. The volunteers hope to bring the problem to the attention of the Interior Ministry.
