Tomorrow, September 12, 2020, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will arrive in Cyprus to meet with President Nicos Anastasiades to find “a peaceful resolution to the growing tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean,” reported the agency France-Presse (AFP).
“We hope that there will be a real dialogue, and we hope that the military forces will be withdrawn, so that this dialogue will take place,” Pompeo told reporters on the eve of his visit.
Pompeo explained that his visit to Cyprus would complement the phone conversations of U.S. President Donald Trump with his Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
In connection with the official visit, the Cyprus police are taking enhanced security measures. And they warn that tomorrow roads will be temporarily blocked both in the suburbs of Larnaca and the capital of the Republic – Nicosia.
