On January 7, the Cypriot Cabinet will consider proposals to tighten quarantine measures in the country, developed by the epidemiological council under the president. There are two possible scenarios, reports SigmaLive.
On the eve of the meeting, the members of the epidemiological council exchanged their opinions on the necessary correction of the existing restrictions in a teleconference. Fears were expressed that a strict isolation would have financial and psychological consequences for the country and its residents. But there were also arguments about the need to give medical professionals a break and curb the surge of disease that has been occurring in recent days.
Epidemiologists consider two scenarios. The first implies that the existing measures will generally remain in place, but SMS registration of citizens’ movements will be introduced and educational institutions will return to work with delays. The second is the introduction of strict isolation until the end of the month.
No final decision has yet been made. Any measures will be implemented after they are approved by the Council of Ministers, whose thematic meeting is scheduled for January 7.
