U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed in his interview the statement of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about a possible ban on the U.S. territory Chinese application TikTok.
Trump explained that banning TikTok in the country could be “one of many” responses to the coronavirus situation.
The president also cited Pompeo’s words that Chinese technology could pose a threat to the country’s national security. This was reported by Bloomberg Agency.
TikTok, an application released in 2018 in China, for creating and watching short videos. It’s owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company.
According to Fox News, there are about 30 million users of TikTok in the United States and more than 700 million worldwide.
If the application is banned, this would be the second case of such measures in the world – it has already been banned on Indian territory under the pretext of “threat to sovereignty”. Also, due to the situation in the region, the application has been stopped in Hong Kong.
