On August 31, “red” levels of fire and weather danger were introduced in Cyprus. The island is now in high heat (up to +44 degrees) and any careless action with fire can cause severe fires on the island.
At around 5 a.m. three fires broke out in the vicinity of Paphos. They started almost simultaneously in the forests, near the abandoned village of Vretsia, near the village of Agios Ioannis and in the area of Rozos.
Towards 10 a.m. the firefighters managed to take control of the flames, but for the time being the patrols remain in place to prevent them from catching another fire.
In total, 20 firefighters, six helicopters and airplanes were thrown to fight the fire.
According to the preliminary version, the fires were caused by arson.
