Around midnight on Wednesday, fifteen migrants from Syria moved to Dhekelia from the north.
The authorities are also currently negotiating with another group of migrants who came by boat to Cape Greco.
In the first case, 15 Syrian migrants – 14 men and one woman – passed through Strovilia and entered the British base at Dhekelia from an unknown point of entry.
The migrants have already been arrested by the police, according to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), and are currently in detention. They are asked to testify as to how they managed to get to the base and details of their arrival in the north.
Once the migrants have received the coronavirus test results, they will be sent to Purnar centre in Kokkinotrimithia.
Regarding the second group of migrants, on Thursday morning the police received information that the boat was eight nautical miles southeast of Cape Greco.
Two police boats have been dispatched to the area, and according to media reports, authorities are trying to dissuade them from boarding in Cyprus. There are about ten people on the boat.
It’s not yet clear what the outcome of the negotiations will be.
CNA reported that due to the Coronavirus pandemic, authorities are trying to persuade the migrants to return to the country from which they came.
