Russia’s Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said that EU sanctions against Turkey are not unreasonable, RIA Novosti reported. “The summit decision is, by and large, a compromise. There have been talks about sanctions against Turkey throughout this and last year. Yes, there are reasons for that,” he said.
Chizhov specified that the EU sanctions against Turkey do not concern complexes C-400 – they concern other actions of Ankara in Eastern Mediterranean: drilling on the shelf, which the countries of the European Union consider their own, rather free reading of norms of international maritime law and “a number of other things”.
Recall, December 11, participants of the meeting of heads of states and governments of the European Union agreed to impose sanctions against Turkey. One of the key topics for discussion at the summit was Ankara’s actions in the Mediterranean Sea.
