The refugees from Famagusta are mobilizing in anticipation of the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the fenced area of Varosha on Sunday. Earlier, Erdoğan announced that to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the unilateral declaration of independence of the North, he will visit and picnic in the part of Varosha that was opened to visitors last month.
The social networks have published a video prepared by the refugees from Famagusta for Erdogan.
“You have no right to be in Famagusta, no right to come here and enjoy our sorrows, to steal our houses and ruin our lives. Famagusta is not your homeland; you have taken over the city. It is our land, built up by our fathers and ancestors many centuries ago. Famagusta belongs to our children and grandchildren; it does not belong to you, Mr. Erdogan, nor to investors from Turkey, nor to settlers, nor to people who do not value it and do not love it as we do. Stay away from Cyprus, from Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, respect our human rights,” the narrator said on the video, adding that Famagusta is not a picnic place.
The Municipality of Famagusta condemned in writing the new unacceptable provocations of Turkey and its puppets in the north, which are damaging Famagusta and the whole of Cyprus. Officials once again called on the UN “to intervene in Turkey’s plans and intrigues in a real, not just verbal, way to protect the people of Famagusta from this new invasion that it is carrying out in Cyprus”.
The Mayor’s Office invited the refugees and all those concerned to participate in a rally that will take place on Sunday at 13:00 at the Derinia crossing point to once again protest against “Ankara’s unacceptable and provocative actions in Famagusta”.
