Today, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will meet with a group of experts from the Ministry of Health. Some of them have already raised concerns about the recent coronavirus spike, especially in the coastal areas of Limassol.
The day before, Thursday, another 10 people received positive results on COVID-19, eight of them from Limassol.
Since 9 March, when the first case was recorded, and to date, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Cyprus has reached 1090.
On the same day, the Ministry announced that out of 1789 laboratory diagnostic tests, four new cases of virus infection had been detected.
The remaining 10 cases were detected through a random testing programme for 3000 people.
The Minister of Health, Constantinos Ioanno, expressed serious concern about the high number of cases detected by random testing and called on everyone to behave responsibly as the data so far indicate that the virus is spreading.
The police leadership was also informed of the situation, following which a decision was made to strengthen testing in public places, especially in the Limassol area.
