On a Sunday evening, the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades was asked by the Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci for air assistance in extinguishing fires.
In a written statement, the official representative of the government, Kiriakos Koushos, said that President Anastasiades immediately instructed the fire-fighting aviation of the republic to take part in the localization of the fire.
But at the moment when the ships were ready for takeoff, the occupied territory sent a notification that the fire had been taken under control. The weather conditions and the change in wind direction helped to prevent the fire.
