New Zealand authorities have obliged all incoming travelers to isolate themselves for 14 days to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This requirement applies both to foreigners and nationals. Quarantine may not be enforced only by those coming from the Pacific islands. For the time being, restrictions are imposed for 16 days.
“This decision means New Zealand will have the toughest border regime in the world,” said Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
The prime minister also asked New Zealanders to refrain from the traditional greeting of indigenous New Zealanders, the Hongy, during which they are pressed with their noses or foreheads.
There are only six cases of coronavirus in New Zealand.
