Seven foreign investors lost their Cyprus passports by decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Cyprus. On Wednesday, October 8, the list of those who will have their citizenship revoked was made public. It was included into the list:
A fugitive billionaire from Malaysia, Jho Low.
His name is associated with the multi-billion dollar scandal with the state fund Malaysia Development Berhad.
Wanted by Interpol – Mehdi Ebrahimi Eshraatabadi (Tony Newman) and Malexabeth Ebrahimi, a father and son.
Mehdi Ebrahimi Eshraatabadi is a Dominican citizen, wanted for fraud.
She is a Cambodian national, Sophiap Chung, and her family.
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission has proven that the couple were involved in violent incidents and property confiscation in Cambodia.
Cyprus opened a program – citizenship in exchange for investment back in 2007, but the scheme began to work actively after the economic crisis on the island in 2013.
It is believed that seven people who received the revoked passports under the scandalous scheme “Investment for Citizens”, concealed the essential facts and used false documents when filing.
