A joint statement signed by Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed expressed the hope that this historic decision should contribute to peace in the Middle East.
Until now, no Gulf country has established diplomatic relations with Israel. Although informal arrangements did exist.
As a result of that agreement, Israel has frozen plans to annex territories in the West Bank.
Of course, this document will not solve the Palestinian question, but in the short term, the benefits are clear.
“Everyone said it was impossible. But this is a truly historic moment. Such progress towards peace in the Middle East has not been made for more than 25 years, when the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan was signed” Donald Trump commented on the event.
The Israeli Prime Minister and the UAE Crown Prince said they shared a view on the threats and challenges facing the Middle East and agreed that achieving stability in the region requires diplomatic relations, deeper economic integration and security cooperation.
