The European Union is considering denying entry to Russia, the United States and Brazil due to the continuing plight of the Coronavirus pandemic. This was reported yesterday by The New York Times with reference to the draft document.
Despite the fact that the European Union countries plan to soon open their borders to support their own economy, affected by COVID-19. However, lists of outsiders who will be denied access to the Eurozone already exist. They include the United States, Russia and Brazil. According to The New York Times, if made public, such a decision would be a severe blow to America’s prestige in the world and a negation of the fact that President Trump is using all possible methods to combat the virus in the United States. The country now has more than 2.3 million cases and 120,000 deaths from the pandemic, higher than any other country.
Two lists of eligible countries for entry are currently being discussed in the European Union, based on their epidemiological statistics. Both lists include China as well as developing countries such as Uganda, Cuba and Vietnam. Both lists also exclude the United States, Russia and other countries considered too dangerous due to the virus’s spread.
There have already been a number of cases where travellers from third countries have been denied access to the European Union, with few exceptions, mainly for repatriation. The final decision on opening the borders will be announced early next week before the EU opens its external borders to third country nationals from July 1.
