Uber announced that in 2020 it will launch several flying cars in Los Angeles, and in a few years it plans to create a real commercial service. Service agreements have already been concluded in Dallas and Dubai.
Uber works with partners in the aerospace industry such as Embraer, Bell Helicopter, Pipistrel, Aurora Flight Sciences and Mooney Aviation. New materials facilitate the fuselage, and distributed electric traction, the use of multiple rotors, makes vertical take-off and landing possible with less noise and pollution than a helicopter. And advanced computer controls make it easier to control.
According to Uber, one day a taxi ride in the sky will cost as much as an UberX car ride does now. While 2020 will only see demonstration flights, the company says that a full commercial service should be launched long before the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
