The Gender Equality Index in Cyprus rose from 56.3% to 56.9% over the year, according to the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE). Thus, Cyprus was ranked 21st in the EU, with the survey results showing that the lowest score was given to the sector of power and women’s access to leadership positions.
The average growth rate in the EU was 0.5% and according to the EIGE press release, it takes another 60 years to achieve full equality between men and women. The score for Cyprus has increased by 7.9 points since 2010, including a 0.6 point increase from 2017. Having achieved slightly faster progress in achieving gender equality than other member states, Cyprus has improved its score by six points.
“The biggest challenge is not to wait 60 years to achieve full equality between men and women, but to continue and strengthen the policy of full equality so that we can achieve the desired results faster,” the EIGE concludes.
