Former advisor to the head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Yuri Khokhlov was extradited from Cyprus to Russia – he is accused of fraud amounting to 7 million dollars. He had already been brought to Moscow under escort.
Khokhlov is accused of attempted fraud committed by a group of people by prior conspiracy, using his official position, on a particularly large scale.
As a result, he believes that he offered assistance to a certain entrepreneur in finding a leading position in Rosrybolovstvo. He set the price of $7 million for his services and those of his associates, but he did not intend to fulfill his part of the contract.
Four cybercriminals were detained by the Chekists when they received a part of the sum – 300 000 dollars. However, Khokhlov himself managed to escape from the law enforcement agencies, and he was put on the wanted list. In October 2018, he was detained in Cyprus. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office sent a request for his extradition to Nicosia, which was granted.
Four accomplices Khokhlov – three Russians and an American – were sentenced in 2018 to terms of imprisonment of three to four years.
