A government official, Kyriakos Koushos, said in a written communication that the President of the Republic of Cyprus contacted the new leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Tatar, on Monday, after the results of the vote were announced.
“We fully respect the decision of the Turkish Cypriots to elect Ersin Tatar as the new leader of the community. I congratulate Mr. Tatar and hope for a quick dialogue,” Anastasiades wrote on his Twitter page.
During the phone conversation President Anastasiades suggested Tatar to schedule a joint meeting as soon as possible in order to get acquainted with each other and discuss new initiatives to settle the Cyprus conflict in the light of UNSC resolutions and EU principles.
Tatar accepted the invitation of Nicos Anastasiades, as Koushos said.
