Minister of Health of Cyprus Konstantinos Ioannou announced a new emergency package to stop the spread of coronavirus. The measures will be introduced across the island – in addition to them for particularly disadvantaged areas (Limassol and Paphos) prepared additional restrictions.
Children’s playgrounds, theme parks and lunar parks will be suspended throughout Cyprus. Conferences, trade and art exhibitions, and other public events are prohibited. Visiting nursing homes is prohibited, and food stores and pharmacies will only serve people over 65 years old and people with disabilities from opening until 10 am.
Additional local measures in Limassol and Paphos will take place from November 12 to 30 and include a ban on entry and exit from these areas, as well as on movement between them (exceptions are made for service personnel, as well as travel for medical reasons (upon presentation of a certificate) and to and from the airports and port of Limassol).
Collections in public places (parks, squares, picnic areas, beaches, sidewalks, marinas, etc.) are prohibited, except for sports purposes, provided that no more than two people (plus underage children of parents involved in sports).
It is allowed to gather no more than 10 people in houses, including children and teenagers. Religious ceremonies (weddings, baptisms, funerals) are also allowed for no more than 10 people, but church services must be held without the presence of people.
The minister said that from the beginning of the pandemic until September 28% of cases of coronavirus were from Limassol and Paphos, and in October and up to now these two districts have already accounted for 70% of cases.
