Anastasia Strouthou: Do what you love, love what you do!

Anastasia, when did you decide to choose dentistry as your profession?

As a kid I was always trying to figure out what I wanted to be. I used to have ugly teeth and I admired those who had beautiful smiles. When I was being interviewed for my orthodontic residency at the University of Tel Aviv in Israel I was asked the same question. ‘When did you decide you wanted to become an orthodontist?’. I answered ‘when I was 10 years old sir’ – they laughed and thought I was kidding. I guess my desire to have a beautiful smile motivated me to become an orthodontist from an early age.

What are the most frequent problems that patients come to you with?

Patients visiting me are usually self-conscious regarding the appearance of their teeth and the aesthetics of their smile, seeking a transformation to give them confidence. I also often have patients who experience functional issues or pain and children whose parents choose orthodontics as an investment in their future health and beauty.

What clinic do you practice at?

I practice orthodontics in a patient-centred manner, at my orthodontic clinic in the centre of Limassol in Mesa Geitonia.

What innovative methods do you apply?

In my clinic, I use the most advanced technological methods for diagnosis and treatment such as an intraoral scanner, digital treatment planning, Damon system brackets and invisible clear aligners.

What is your philosophy in your work?

Do what you love, love what you do!

How far has dentistry advanced in recent years?

Dentistry and orthodontics have advanced significantly and entered a digital era where customisation and pre-visualisation of the treatment plan are possible. Discomfort is minimised and results are optimised.

How much of your life do you dedicate to your job? Are you a workaholic?

I allocate a big part of my life to my dream job. Love for what I am doing gives me great satisfaction and people’s smiles motivate me to continue.

How do you combine your job and family? Have you found a work-life balance?

Work and family are overwhelming to combine, especially in the first years. I feel, though, that as my son gets older, I also grow more mature and I have managed to create a good balance and reduce the guilt. It does take a happy, satisfied adult to be a good parent and my work is part of my self-care.

What advice do you give to your patients?

Smile, take care of yourself and your loved ones. Smile and thrive through life with confidence!
