Police in Larnaca managed to prevent the theft of more than 74,000 euros from a local company. A 40-year-old employee of the company was arrested – he tried to embezzle money by staging a raid on the office.
The day before the owner of the company contacted the police saying that his employee had told him about the theft of a large sum of cash from the office. The cash was 74065 euros.
According to the employee, he came to work around 3:30 p.m. and found the premises a mess and the front door at the back of the building wide open.
When police arrived at the company’s office, the 40-year-old man was questioned and repeated what his employer had previously told the law enforcement officers. But when it came to investigating the scene, the missing money was found in the company car. The employee confessed that he wanted to steal it.
Now the hapless thief will have to answer for both theft and perjury.
