Cypriot authorities intend to discuss the introduction of new “coronavirus” restrictions in the coming days – it is likely that the country will face a lockdown with the exit from the house by SMS-permits.
Last weekend it was announced about the appearance of a new mutation of COVID-19 on Cyprus, 60-70% more contagious – it was brought to the island by air passengers from Great Britain. In addition, the incidence of coronavirus in the country remains high, and the load on hospitals is close to critical levels.
The president’s epidemiological council will meet today with Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou. Council members will form a package of new measures to combat the coronavirus and submit it to the Cabinet for discussion. The ministers will meet for this purpose, presumably on January 5 or 7.
Among the issues to be discussed are the need for a general lockdown in Cyprus with the activation of a text-message authorization system for going out; the possibility of opening schools from January 11; the work of retail outlets in the country, etc.
