In 17 boats, 235 migrants tried to reach the British coastline from northern France. This happened on Thursday, August 6. Illegals were intercepted by the British Coast Guard and Border Agency, the BBC reported. The week before, 202 people were trying to get to the British coasts.
Since the beginning of the year, 3,948 people have crossed the Channel illegally on more than 300 ships, according to the British Home Office.
The British government is shocked by the number of arrivals of illegal immigrants and intends to understand the reasons for the sharp increase in attempts by migrants to cross the English Channel recently.
A committee has now been set up to study possible measures by the British and French authorities to combat illegal migration. As well as the conditions under which refugees in northern France live, they are often housed in makeshift camps. The committee will also assess the risks to which children are exposed by crossing the strait without parents.
