Cyprus is expecting its first batch of flu vaccines in September

Free flu vaccination is available this year both for vulnerable groups in Cyprus (people over 65 years of age and children aged 6 months to 15 years with chronic diseases) and for health workers, residents of nursing homes, veterinarians, poultry farmers, slaughterhouse workers, as well as for those living in closed communities such as soldiers.

Influenza vaccination will be available from your therapists through the General Health System (GESY). The doctor should draw up an individual vaccination scheme.

  • The first batch of vaccines is expected to arrive on the island by 30 September and include 20,000 injections.
  • The second batch will arrive at the end of October and will include some 12,500 vaccines.
  • The third and largest consignment is due on 15 November and will include 67,500 vaccines.
  • Another batch of 35,000 vaccines, which were purchased by Cyprus under a different scheme, is also expected in late September and early October.

In addition, the Republic of Cyprus is participating in an open competition by the European Committee and expects an additional 50,000 flu vaccines under the programme.

If you do not qualify for any of the above categories, you may, if you wish, receive the vaccine voluntarily and at your own expense.
