Yesterday, the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades met with the President of France Emmanuel Macron.
The dialogue was very productive and took place in a friendly atmosphere.
At the meeting:
1. There was a joint reading and assessment of data and events in the Eastern Mediterranean.
2) A joint statement was made that the EU should play a leading and decisive role in the region and France will work in this direction.
3) It was agreed that the EU should use all available means to ensure peace and security in the region.
4. Agreement was reached to strengthen bilateral relations (beyond defence and security) in areas such as education, culture, tourism and economy.
5. It was stressed that France, as the only EU country that is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, should play a leading role in the Cyprus issue.
6. Recent developments in the EU and the outcome of the last European Council, which discussed the multi-annual EU financial budget 2021-2027. The President of the Republic appreciated the important role of President Macron in reaching an agreement.
7. The events in Syria and Libya were also discussed, and a common political approach and assessment was found.
