From February 8, cinemas in Cyprus should open to the public – but their owners are much less enthusiastic about it than you might think. According to Inbusinessnews.Reporter, the issue is the conditions under which they are invited to work.

According to the order of the Ministry of Health, the number of spectators at each session should not exceed 50 people. Meanwhile, the country continues to have a curfew: there should be no people on the streets after 9 p.m. But the prime time for cinemas is the evening hours, with shows at 20:00 and 22:00.

Entrepreneurs note that given the above, it becomes unprofitable for them to open cinemas: the expected profit will not cover even the operating costs, such as wages, utility bills and rent and – another sign of the pandemic – the cost of disinfecting the premises.
