The night before, a rally against anti-Covid measures and corruption gathered outside the Filoxenia conference center in Nicosia, where the Cypriot parliament held a meeting. The police had to use water cannons and tear gas against the protesters, reports Cyprus Times.
The rally was attended not only by residents of the capital, but also by visitors from other Cypriot cities. They demanded the abolition of anti-Covid restrictions as “a danger to the people of Cyprus” and a referendum.
The protesters moved from Filoxenia center to DIAS Complex building, where Sigma TV channel is located, and rioted. They blocked car traffic, lit smoke bombs, and threw stones at the police. Law enforcers had to use tear gas and water cannons against the protesters.
Several cars were reportedly damaged as a result of the strike. The police detained three of the protesters.
