The Republic of Cyprus lifted more coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday including a limit of no more than ten people in group gatherings, with important announcements expected following a Cabinet meeting.
As part of the fourth stage in a gradual ease of restrictions in Cyprus, authorities lifted a measure that placed a cap at 10 persons in gatherings of planned or spontaneous events indoors or outdoors.
The idea behind the restriction was based on the notion that as an individual interacts with more people at a gathering and the longer the interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 as well as spreading the bug.

But following consultations with the government’s epidemiological team, the measure was lifted as of Wednesday morning at 6am, along with the reopening of indoor playgrounds.
A maximum number of people allowed to gather in large groupings anywhere is 75 for indoor venues and 150 in outdoor spaces, while large gatherings in both indoor and outdoor spaces at the same time are not allowed.
People hosting gatherings in their own homes, including any persons residing permanently in the home, are included in the head count regardless of whether they participate in the activities.
According to Kathimerini Cyprus, the President’s Cabinet was meeting on Wednesday morning with “important announcements” expected later in the day.
